new york philharmonic gets a new look ahead of opening at lincoln center

the new identity of new york’s symphony orchestra

 

while new york city is continually reinventing itself, so is the new york philharmonic. the globally-renowned symphony orchestra has undergone a rebrand, and certainly at an exciting time. lincoln center is set to open its spectacular david geffen hall this autumn (see designboom’s coverage here). the concert hall will house the philharmonic with ultra-improved acoustics, magical ‘firefly’ lighting fixtures, and a multi-story mural depicting a shower of falling rose petals.

 

the new identity of the new york philharmonic has just launched today, march 22nd, and was defined by ogilvy. the new york city-based advertising studio celebrates the contemporary new relationship between the orchestra and the city, which are now kicking off a new chapter following two years of closure.

while the new york philharmonic was founded in 1842 — 180 years ago — the orchestra launches its new brand identity by ogilvy (see more) as an optimistic leap into the future. the NY phil (see more) is located at 65th and broadway in the soon-to-open david geffen hall, right on the iconic main plaza of lincoln center.

 

we are turning the new david geffen hall into a home,‘ the team at NY phil comments. ‘this city and the audience’s experience of embracing the orchestra in the new hall are the inspirations behind our new visual identity.
