Lacime Architects design OCT Exhibition Center along Yigan River

Nanjing Lishui OCT Exhibition Center by Lacime Architects stands as the inaugural project of the Nanjing Characteristic Cultural Tourism Center in China, designed not only to showcase regional planning but also to support potential community functional transformations. Situated on the east side of Baota Road in Lishui District, Nanjing, along the north bank of Yigan River, the project benefits from an excellent natural environment. Abstract geometric concrete forms drawn from the local environment of Lishui are incorporated into the new building. Elements like the Yongshou Temple Pagoda, courtyards, the main water channel, and Jiangnan streets are abstracted into magnified geometric still life, creating interwoven spatial scenes.

fair-faced concrete emphasizes the center’s geometric volume

The static components form a semantic superimposed landscape through spatial combination, creating an aesthetic composition that unveils a miniature landscape. The facade, constructed with fair-faced concrete, emphasizes the geometric volume of the building. Considering the construction process, parts of the structure utilize cast-in-place, while others employ dry-hung concrete fiberboard and corner GRC. The entire facade is coated with clear concrete paint to simulate the effect of bare concrete and unify the building materials’ texture. Employing geometric design techniques, the architects connect the building space to both local and global perspectives. Through this abstract form, the Exhibition Center communicates a profound understanding of Liushui’s past, present, and future.
