Chon Buri by Funs Design fuses with the rainforest

Funs Design integrates architecture with nature through the development of Chon Buri which embodies their organic symbiosis in the heart of GaoZhuang, China. The project comprises two distinct structures, a spa center, and a restaurant, connected by a central promenade providing privacy to each space. Drawing from the local tropical rainforest, the restaurant’s design mirrors the perpetual flow of leaves, embracing the balance and harmony of nature. The approach involves minimal design enhancements using natural materials. Traditional bamboo weaving techniques from the Dai people further connect the environment with nature, blurring the boundaries of inside and outside.

The design protects the surrounding natural canopy and preserves bird homes intricately integrating the building into the rainforest fabric. The courtyard, surrounded by trees and red bricks, dissolves boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, offering a genuine connection with nature. Within the restaurant’s interior, wooden bridges and green slate stones are strategically placed amidst lush foliage, creating anticipation and intrigue. Wooden and bamboo furnishings craft an immersive ambiance, providing a distinctive dining experience in the heart of a rainforest. For the spa center, the design team embraces minimalism through a simple design that evokes tranquility, allowing visitors to find serenity in a pure environment.
