Stalk Tree-Hugger by RAD+ar emerges from the greenery

Situated in Jakarta‘s business district, RAD+ar‘s Stalk Tree-Hugger envelopes five existing tall trees in a parametric cloth creating a play of light and shadows to accommodate various commercial activities. The project focuses on experimenting with spatial experience and maintaining a simple yet functional design that integrates with the existing greenery. The structure welcomes visitors to a restaurant and lounge under the changing shadows of the trees. Tensile structures act as dynamic shadows, creating ever-changing patterns as the wind blows and the trees move, ensuring a comfortable and nature-centric architectural environment. The entrance is discreetly nestled among vertical plants, leading to a narrow foyer surrounded by greenery which ends in the upper bar-restaurant nestled among the trees.

restaurant spaces reside under the changing shadows of trees

The upper bar-restaurant features a light steel-timber thatch roof, providing shade and anchoring the parametric tensile structure. This roof, functioning as both a facade and varied ceiling, transforms into a lantern during nighttime, contributing to the cityscape and enhancing the atmosphere of the multiple hosted functions, including music events. Led by Antonius Richard, the design team at RAD+ar aims to showcase how minimal intervention in nature can create space to accommodate various commercial activities. The project emphasizes flexibility, experimenting with unlimited permutation patterns for both nature and lighting while minimally impacting the existing landscape.
