Introducing The Treehouse Villa: A Sustainable Retreat in Bali

Nestled within the scenic Grün Resort Uluwatu in Bali, Stilt Studios presents its latest project, The Treehouse Villa, which is also the largest of the series to date. Comprising seven individual units integrated into the lush surroundings, this unique villa redefines sustainable luxury by merging modern comfort with eco-conscious principles. The two-story units stand atop stilts, providing access through a wooden stairwell. Upon ascending, visitors step into a 64 sqm open-plan space that effortlessly combines the living, dining, and kitchen areas. This layout ensures a smooth flow between indoor and outdoor spaces and maximizes natural ventilation. Stilt Studios’ furniture designs, including lounge chairs, dining chairs, and lamps, contribute to the villa’s aesthetics and functionality, imbuing the villa with a welcoming and cozy atmosphere.

When it comes to the interior, the architects opted for an earthy color palette and materials like teak wood, woven rattan, and banana paper, drawing inspiration from the natural surroundings. ‘These materials are then enriched with local decorative elements, creating a warm and distinctly Indonesian ambiance, reminiscent of the comfort of home,’ says Frans Sihombing, Stilt Studios’ Lead Interior Designer. Wooden flooring and ceiling create a cozy atmosphere, and the wood ceiling blends with the sloping rooflines, cocooning guests in a comfortable envelop. The second floor of the villa offers a 40 sqm open-plan layout, with a sleeping area, a separate bathroom, and a lounging area that can double as a workspace. In order to extend the living area, the team formed a 24 sqm balcony, offering a relaxing spot with lounge couches and panoramic forest and ocean views.

Stilt Studios follows its ethos of minimizing its impact on the environment by using prefabricated building elements and responsibly sourced materials, with a focus on carbon storage through wood. Collaborating with Ecollabo, they incorporate recycled plastic elements in the bathroom, creating marbled motifs that are both artistic and sustainable. Additionally, by employing efficient prefabrication techniques, they simplify the construction process, minimizing waste and decreasing the environmental impact. Moreover, the Villa’s layout provides easy access to the resort’s dining venues, The Octagon (read more in our previous article here) and La Cima, ensuring guests can dine without compromising their privacy.
