Tanatap Ring Garden Café unfolds in Jakarta

Tanatap Ring Garden Café by studio RAD+ar introduces a unique prototype of multi-leveled greenspaces where dynamic platforms rise and fall to create an engaging rooftop landscape. This innovative design connects a series of floating amphitheaters encircling lush green areas, fostering outdoor activities and communal gatherings. The architects challenge traditional notions of indoor spaces by concealing them within a multi-leveled garden. The project aims to redefine civic spaces, especially in cities like Jakarta, where government-run public spaces are often unreliable. The proposal’s strategies include connecting existing trees with bridges for visitor circulation, creating an underground intimate entrance, and offering a unique experience in scale, color, and natural light.

Pathway Bridge and Skylights Connect Indoors and Outdoors

The cafe’s furniture remains undefined, blended with the hardscape and features of the landscape, allowing visitors to shape their own sense of comfort. As visitors enter, a pathway bridge connecting existing trees blurs the line between indoor and outdoor space. A skylight and garden activity zones above beckon them further. The café unfolds into a spacious, multi-leveled garden, immersing visitors into the tropical environment. The upper level offers a transition between the urban and natural landscapes, punctuated by glass blocks that provide privacy while welcoming ample natural light. RAD+ar‘s design emerges as a sustainable response to outdoor tropical commercial spaces in Indonesia.
