Singer’s san juan commission revamps 1991 porsche 911 sports car

Singer revamps a 1991 Porsche 911 sports car, which was recently recreated into a foldable smartphone, and fits it with carbon fiber body panels and accents along with a color combination of Grand Prix White over a hand-trimmed, black-and-lime-green interior for the dubbed ‘San Juan Commission’. Singer is renowned for restoring Porsche 911 sports cars, and its recent makeover includes Recaro sports seats, trimmed by Singer’s team of master upholsterers.

The design team also added their own iteration of Porsche’s motorsports lollipop pattern, which can be seen inside the restored 1991 Porsche 911 sports car through the polychrome gradient of black, Viper Green, and Singer Racing Green leathers contrasting Alcantara suedes and lime green stitching. Singer’s restored sports car is expected to be up for bid by RM Sotheby’s starting March 2nd, 2024.

Carbon fiber accents throughout the restores sports car

Carbon fiber accents and body panels show up throughout Singer’s restored 1991 Porsche 911 sports car, which will soon go live in an auction by RM Sotheby’s and ModaMiami. The San Juan Commission has a carbon fiber dashboard trim panel and black Alcantara lightweight door cards, and its kick panels are anodized, complementing the sports car’s drilled pedal set, black Alcantara headliner, black leather dashboard, and its neon-like SR Green-finished Fuchs wheels. The interior also comes with carbon-fiber door sills and a transmission tunnel, and the design of the anodized gear shift knob is inspired by Malibu style.

The speedometer and tachometer within the gauge suite have dials in Grand Prix White with black markers and Viper Green needles to match the Recaro seats’ color palette, reminiscent of the way instruments were styled in Porsche 911s from the mid-1960s. While the San Juan Commission has a classic 1911 Porsche 911 look, Singer adapts to the modern needs of urban drivers and equips the sports car with air conditioning and an adjustable suspension system designed for the track, provided by Öhlins, a renowned suspension manufacturer.

Singer’s custom-made engine for 1991 porsche 911

A look inside its engine may make Porsche fans appreciate that the restored 1991 911 sports car features  a 4.0-liter flat-six-cylinder engine, built by the Singer team themselves. It is capable of producing 390 horsepower and 315 pound-feet of torque, and it is hand-built by experts at Ed Pink Racing Engines in California and not commercially produced. The San Juan Commission can speed from 0 through 60 miles per hour in less than 3.3 seconds, and it can also reach 100 mph in just 8.2 seconds.

Many parts of the Singer-restored 1991 Porsche 911’s engine are custom-made, including pistons, cylinders, cylinder heads, crankshafts, camshafts, connecting rods, oil pumps, throttle bodies, and intake systems. The San Juan Commission also comes with a titanium exhaust system that also creates a distinctive sound, and a distinctive look emerges from the sports car’s ‘Mulholland’ rear wing, designed to generate downforce. It’s fixed directly to the engine decklid or the cover of the engine compartment at the rear.  The restored 1991 Porsche 911 sports car has a six-speed manual transmission.

Porsche’s 911 celebrates its 61st birthday in 2024, and RM Sotheby’s is hosting an auction for the classic revamped vehicle starting March 2nd, 2024. Each 911 reimagined by Singer is a creation tailored to each specific owner, so no two personal commissions by Singer are the same, including the one-off San Juan Commission. Delivered new to the consignor in October 2023, the restored Porsche 911 sports car represents Singer’s classic study of restoration, orders for which the company capped at 450 examples in June 2022.
